The Climate Hive Community is built for people actively working in climate, or with tangible climate experience:
current practitioners, students, and experienced job seekers.

If you're not there yet, we’re not going to sell you a seat at the wrong table. We'd rather point you in the right direction to get you started, because climate work needs you. Here are some linked resources we can recommend to anyone making the leap.

Find a climate job:

The most popular, and most competitive option.

  1. Join the Work on Climate Slack group. The largest, most active global community of professionals seeking to use their talent to solve climate change and build a regenerative green economy.

  2. Join a Job Search Council through the Never Search Alone community, right inside the Work on Climate Slack. Alexis participated in a Job Search Council (before there was a climate-specific thread offered through WoCl). She cherished the experience and she recommends it to everyone. Job searching is lonely and can indeed be soul sucking; this free, peer-led, strengths-based curriculum is a powerful antidote.

  3. Follow Daniel Hill and #OpenDoorClimate on LinkedIn. You can submit yourself as a Green Jobseeker to be connected with someone, or you can head straight to the #OpenDoorClimate Directory of the 4,000+ climate professionals have raised their hands to chat with Green Jobseekers to schedule a short call directly with them. (Pro Tip: Provide your OpenDoorClimate professional with as much context as possible ahead of your chat, and come with questions. See this link for templates & tips.)

  4. Review Environmental Defense Fund's (EDF’s) tips, tools and resources for finding a planet-saving job at the Green Jobs Hub, or start with the Land a Green Job 101 miniseries.

  5. Listen to EDF's DEGREES podcast: Real Talk About Planet-Saving Careers. It's honestly so good and will definitely spark joy. (Season 7 is all about Connection as a Climate Solution!)

Make climate part of your existing job:

You don't have to quit your job to do climate work. Sometimes the most powerful move is greening the job you already have. There aren’t enough “climate” jobs to fulfill the demands, and we need more jobs to become focused on climate outcomes.

  1. Check out the Climate Leadership Collective, founded by Drew Wilkinson. He specializes in making sustainability part of everyone's job, with a zeal that is highly contagious.

  2. Watch this Work on Climate webinar with Drew Wilkinson and Aiyana Bodi. They share hyper-practical ways to take climate action in your workplace right now. You'll leave fired up 🔥.

  3. Start talking to your colleagues about climate & sustainability in your workplace.

  4. Ask your organization’s leaders where they stand on climate & sustainability, and how you can help reduce risk and prepare for our new future. (Hint: listen to #1 & #2 in this section before taking this step).

Build your foundational climate knowledge:

These less expensive, expedient alternatives to university degrees will help you establish a foundational knowledge and awareness of the current climate landscape and spark a climate community.

  1. Terra.do: Cohort-based climate courses and fellowships designed for career-changers.

  2. Climatebase: A competitive fellowship that combines climate education, expert-learning, community, and project-based work.

  3. Greenhouse Gas Management Certificate: Gain a foundational understanding of the drivers of climate change, the science behind it all, and what solutions already exist. This is one option, but there are others.

  4. Project Drawdown: The most comprehensive database of science-based solutions to climate change. Access their module-based learning center here.
